Djamila Aouada

Prof. Djamila Aouada was born in Blida, Algeria, on November 10, 1982. She is Assistant Professor/Senior Research Scientist at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), at the University of Luxembourg, and the head of the Computer Vision, Imaging and Machine Intelligence (CVI2) research group. She also heads the Computer Vision Lab and co-heads the Zero-Gravity Space Lab. Prof. Aouada received the State Engineering degree (Ingéniorat d’État) in electronics in June 2005, from the École Nationale Polytechnique (ENP), Algiers, Algeria, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in May 2009 from North Carolina State University (NCSU), Raleigh, NC, USA. Dr. Aouada has been leading the computer vision activities at the SnT since 2009. She attracted several national, industrial and European projects.

She has supervised and co-supervised 9 PhD theses and is currently the main supervisor of 6 PhD Candidates. She has worked as a consultant for multiple renowned laboratories (Los Alamos National Laboratory, Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs., and Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs.). Her research interests span the areas of signal and image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition and data modelling. Prof. Aouada is Senior Member of the IEEE, member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, IEEE WIE, INSTICC and the Eta Kappa Nu honor society (HKN). She has served as the Chair of the IEEE Benelux Women in Engineering Affinity Group from 2014 to 2016. She also served as the Chair of the SHARP workshop in conjunction with ECCV 2020, CVPR 2021 and this year at CVPR 2022. She also served as the Chair of the SPARK Challenge at ICIP 2021, and this year within the AI4Space in Conjunction with ECCV2022. She regularly reviews for journals and conferences, including ICIP, CVPR, ECCV, IEEE TIP, CVIU, and SigPro. She is the co-author of four IEEE best paper awards.
